Mirror Technology

Our new tanning bulbs feature built-in mirror technology, and generate up to 50% more tanning power in each bed. This means a tanner may get the same tanning power in a SunSplash 16 bulb bed with the new mirror lamps than they could get in a 24 bulb bed without mirror lamps.

With the mirror technology's extra phosphorus you should be able to get 7 to 10 years of use if 3 people use it 3 times per week. (based on 9 twenty minute sessions/wk.). In a standard tanning bed, if 2 people use it twice a week, it should last 2-3 years. (based on 4 twenty minute sessions/wk.).

In essence, our new tanning bulbs feature a reflective coating inside of the glass tube, which forces the UV light to travel on a straight path directly to your skin's surface during the tanning session. This gives 50% more tanning power without using any extra electricity. In a regular non-mirrored bulb, the UV light bounces off all surfaces within the bed, which means the ultraviolet light is losing power before reaching your skin. See photo:

Safety concerns are addressed by independent testing labs for these types of lamps. According to the Health Physics Society, a recognized specialist in radiation safety, "Most phototherapy and tanning booths use UVA lamps. UVA is the most commonly encountered type of UV light and the least harmful because it has the least energy. UVA exposure has an initial pigment-darkening effect (tanning) followed by erythema if the exposure is excessive. Atmospheric ozone absorbs very little of this part of the UV spectrum. UVA is needed by humans for synthesis of vitamin D; however, overexposure to UVA has been associated with toughening of the skin, suppression of the immune system, and cataract formation. UVA light is often called black light."
